Mukono Kings High School and Latifah Mixed celebrated triumph at the Mukono District qualifiers for this year’s USSSA Ball Games I, held at St. Joseph Naggalama SS over the weekend.
Mukono Kings clinched a third straight title after edging surprise finalists Seroma Christian High School 6–5 in a tense penalty shootout.
The final had ended goalless in normal time, with Mukono dominating chances but failing to break down a resilient Seroma side that relied on a defensive approach and time management. Seroma had earlier stunned last year’s finalists, Dynamic SS, in the semifinals.

It proved a heartbreaking day for Seroma, who lost two finals at the same venue. Their girls’ football team had earlier fallen 2–0 to Latifah Islamic. Attempts by Seroma officials to challenge the eligibility of some Latifah players went unresolved, adding to their frustration.
However, Seroma found consolation in volleyball, where their boys’ team went unbeaten to lift the trophy after an impressive round-robin campaign.
Elsewhere, Mt. St. Mary’s College Namagunga claimed the girls’ volleyball title, while Hamdan Islamic successfully defended their netball crown.
Mukono District sports chairman Steven Kitooke hailed the level of competition, describing it as one of the most intense in recent years.
“As organizers, we are impressed with the level of competition we have witnessed. Every game felt like a final, and it was difficult to single out underdogs,” Kitooke said.
He expressed optimism about Mukono’s prospects at the national level, noting the quality of talent on display ahead of the USSSA Ball Games I, which will be hosted by Seroma Christian High School.
A total of 24 schools have advanced to the zonal qualifiers set for April 15–19 at St. Mark SS in Kayunga District, where Mukono’s football representatives for the nationals will be determined.
