KCCA Netball Club started the 2025 league season with one clear objective: to win the league title.

From the opening matches, the intent was evident not only in the results they posted but also in the quality, discipline and resilience they displayed on court throughout the campaign.

Their title charge was crowned on a dramatic final day after a hard-fought 44–41 victory over Prisons Netball Club in what proved to be one of the most competitive matches of the season, played at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on monday. The win sealed KCCA’s first-ever league championship and marked a historic moment for the club.

Wing attacker Norah Lunkuse, one of the standout performers this season, credited the triumph to the team’s never-give-up spirit and collective belief.

“I am so excited that we are finally champions. When I joined the club, all we hoped for was winning the title. Thank God we have achieved it as a team through hard work and persistence. To our coaches and managers, I can’t thank you enough,” Lunkuse said.

Head coach Fred Mugerwa also celebrated a personal milestone, clinching his first league title since taking charge of the club in 2018. He attributed the success to unity, consistency and trust among his players.

“We play as a team. When you look at my squad, it is the same players who have played since the league started. I think they understand each other, and that has made it easier for us to win,” Mugerwa noted.

KCCA’s dominance this season was built on a solid defensive foundation, marshalled by Shaffie Nalwanja and Christine Nakitto, who formed one of the most reliable defensive pairings in the league. Their defensive strength complemented a lethal attacking unit led by sharpshooter Shadia Nassanga, making KCCA a well-balanced and difficult side to break down.

The title is even more impressive considering the team had to cope without captain Irene Eyaru, who was instrumental in the shooting circle before her absence. KCCA’s ability to adapt and still emerge champions underlines the depth and quality within Mugerwa’s squad.

Over the course of the season, KCCA played 24 matches, winning 22, drawing one and losing just once to finish top of the table with 45 points. Their closest challengers, National Insurance Corporation (NIC) , the most decorated club in the league finished second with 44 points, missing out on the title by a single point.

For KCCA Netball Club, the long-awaited championship is a reward for consistency, belief and teamwork, and a statement that they are now firmly among the league’s elite.
