Pickup Marshals were heroes of the seventh round of the Mountain Dew National Motocross championship in Omito Lira city.
The Marshals throughout the two days had restless times during practice and all competition heats lifting bikes, riders from the soaked areas the competitors fall during the seventh round of the eight National motocross championship.
Unlike the other rounds where parents have been running alongside their children to give them where to pass, this time in Omito Parents had nowhere to pass and if they risked, the pick-up marshals would rescue them in the muddy sections.
The heavy rains turned the event to more less an enduro competition as riders had to endure harsh conditions all in the quest for points on the national championship log.
The Clerk of the Course Joseph Mwangala had to cancel one heat for the junior classes, MX50 junior, Senior and Mx65cc class because the track was not safe for them.
“We cancelled the heat because parents requested, but we also saw that it was not safe for the riders and their bikes. So, we had to cancel that last heat,” Mwangala explained.
Gift Sebuguzi and Miguel Katende excited the fans because of their riding prowess in the muddy sections of the track and jumps.
Sebuguzi in the MX125 cc class combined with the veterans’ class was unmatched as he even overlapped other competitors.
The same was Miguel Katende in MX 85 who beat stiff opposition from his sibling Jonathan Katende and Shaorak Katumba who came second and third respectively. track in Lira.
In the MX1 Fortune Sentamu lost to Hashim Sserwada in the MX1 class after his bike got mechanical fault in the second heat.
Israel Mpuuga won the 50cc class beating Abigail Katende who came second.
The event attracted less than 50 competitors and the low turn was attributed to many racers writing their beginning of the term examinations.
