Team Uganda’s Larry Sekamwa, Miguel Katende and Jonathan Katende, will use the fifth round of the National Motocross Championships in Garuga to test their speeds ahead of the Junior World Championships in Romania.

The trio faces off today at Victoria Raceway Park in Garuga to fight for the maximum points on the national championship log.

Jonathan Katende leads the championship log with 200 points, 20 ahead of Miguel, and 39, 46 ahead of Ramathan Mubiru and Sekamwa in the second, third and fourth positions respectively.

It will be an exciting race for the fans in the three heats that fetch 20 points each for the winner.

The racers will be on a hard track, different from the soft way of Kyakaigo in Fort Portal, where they competed in the fourth round.

Whereas crowd favourite Fortune Sentamu will be missing in action, the fans are anxiously waiting for the battle between Jude Kyle Musedde and Jamairah Makumbi in the 50cc category and Milton Akaki and Waleed Omar in MX125cc.

In the 50cc class leading with 21 points, Musedde (229) will be out to avenge the Makumbi (208) defeat in Fort Portal to stretch the lead atop of the log and that is what makes this race more exciting.

However, the two face a stiff challenge from other racers including Noel Sekamwa (149), Deedan Angel (137) Abigail Katende, Eli Mitima, Abigail Muwanguzi and Solomon Winyi.

The MX125cc class is expected to be a wheel-to-wheel race as the two close friends Milton Akaki and Waleed Omar battle in what is expected to be the most exciting race of the day.

Leading the log with 220 points, 37 ahead of Waleed, Akaki is out to widen the gap, something the former is not ready for.

In Fort Portal, Waleed finished second behind Akaki in the first heat but regrouped to win the second and third heats as Akaki came second.

“We fine-tuned our bike, and we expect a tougher challenge, but we are ready for it,” Ali Omar Sr. told New Vision Sport.

However, before the MX125cc race, African champion Gift Tabula Sebuguzi (240 points) will face challenges from Jerome Mubiru.
