Motocross Championship Round 4 moved from Lira to Garuga

The event, initially scheduled for northern Uganda, was shifted after organisers realised that restoring the Lira track to competitive standards would require resources beyond the club's available budget.

Financial limitations have forced the Uganda Motocross Club to relocate the fourth round of the Mountain Dew Motocross Championship from Omito Village in Lira City to Victoria Raceway Park along Entebbe Road in Wakiso district.

The event, initially scheduled for northern Uganda, was shifted after organisers realised that restoring the Lira track to competitive standards would require resources beyond the club's available budget.

A total of 75 riders are expected to compete at Garuga this Sunday across various classes, with valuable championship points at stake.

Paul Kayigwa, president of the Uganda Motocross (UMX) Club, said the Lira circuit had become heavily overgrown due to persistent rains since the club last held an event there in September. The sandy terrain made clearing, grading, and re-levelling the track expensive. Additional costs for service providers and rider travel further strained the budget.

"The budget required to take the event to Lira was simply beyond our means at this moment," Kayigwa said. "After consultations with the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda, we agreed that shifting the event to Garuga was the most practical solution."
