Two years ago, the Motherwell Soccer Academy in Mutungo, Nakawa Division, took a leap forward, energised and guided by the visit of English coaches Steve Taylor and Sam White.

Beyond hosting an international soccer clinic for the children of Motherwell Junior Academy, the coaches sparked a partnership that promises exciting collaborations in the future.

Now, the academy is setting its sights on Sweden, thanks to a special visit from Ugandan-Swedish TikToker KrinaStyla, who chose to celebrate her birthday with the academy on Monday. In a heartfelt gesture, she and her mother, Joy Ruth Acheng, former Uganda High Commissioner to Canada, donated school supplies and food to the children and pledged to connect the academy with a Swedish counterpart for exchange programs and more.

“There is an academy I have connections with, and they were looking for potential partners in Africa, and they can donate lots of equipment to the academy, like jerseys, which they have done before,” KrinaStyla said.

Acheng, joined by KrinaStyla and her sisters, shared that she preferred giving back to the community over lavish celebrations. She was moved by the academy’s dedication to supporting children and those in need, and felt the visit gave her daughter a chance to make a real difference. For Acheng, giving is a reflection of faith and compassion, and she believes that if everyone shared what they had, no child would struggle with school fees or hardship.

Academy director Mark Kayongo, together with academy head Christine Alupo, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the donors, praising their unwavering commitment and trust. He celebrated the generosity of visitors who not only promise but return to fulfil those promises, calling these acts truly memorable and meaningful.

“The academy has grown since your last visit in 2020 and has a remarkable track record of success, just like the school whose P7 candidates all passed for the 14th consecutive year. Two prominent academy players are among the graduating students, demonstrating the academy's positive impact on the community,” Kayongo stated.
