The national Modern Pentathlon Federation will this year put much emphasis on increasing competitive activities, capacity building, and spreading the sport to different regions.
Simon Komakech, the president noted this during the federation's annual assembly at the Uganda Olympic committee.
“We all know we are a young sport. So, we have to put much emphasis on capacity building and spreading the game to all regions of the country,” Komakech said.
“Schools and other Institutions of learning shall be our top target and if we achieve that, then we shall be able to grow the sport,” Komakech added.
At the moment, the sport has eight member clubs including, Police, UPDF, Elite, Kisubi Pirates, Greater Escape Club, and Rwenzururians.
Najuma ready for the world championship
Meanwhile, with the 2024 Olympic roadmap open, Athlete Rashida Najjuma is aiming to better her performance in the available internationals starting with the Modern Pentathlon World Cup next month in Egypt.
The 2023 Modern Pentathlon World Cup will take place on March 7 to 12 in Cairo Egypt.
The Ndejje University student bagged 18 gold medals and 2 silvers in the December East African University Games at Ndejje university in Luwero.
The 26-year-old female athlete told Vision Sport her target is to qualify for the Olympics and that is what drives her to continue working hard.
She added that competing in the World Cup is a big opportunity for her to maximise her potential.
“I want to maximise my potential and exposure with the main target of winning more,” Najjuma said.
Modern Pentathlon is an Olympic Sport consisting of fencing, freestyle swimming, equestrian show jumping, pistol shooting, and cross-country running.
