Mbarara Motor Club (MMC) president Lillian Busingye has come out to tell the club enthusiasts that their club is ready to take on any explanations from the local motorsport governing body Federation of Motorsport Clubs in Uganda (FMU) about their failure to organise the Mbarara rally this year.

Busingye who was speaking for the first time since FMU stripped MMC of the rights to organise the February Mbarara event, said she had as president, written to FMU asking them for an explanation which she has yet to receive.

And in the meeting attended by 60 members on Saturday at Lake View Hotel in Mbarara, Busingye was confident of a positive response from the FMU.

“I would like to say that we are sorry for having not staged the event as MMC but this is because we were stopped by FMU, saying that we failed to meet the requirements in the past event. We wonder how the observer’s report of all the events of the year put MMC as the best-organized event and then FMU says it was not. We have since written asking for an explanation which we have yet to receive from them, but we hope for the positives and we shall be letting you know,” Busingye told the meeting.

In the 2021 observer’s report, MMC came top of all the 7 events, with 689 points, followed by Central Motor Club at 410, but FMU still insisted MMC had failed the event requirements.

It should be noted that the 2021 Rukaari-Mbarara rally was canceled at the last hour, with FMU claiming MMC had failed to obtain the speed limit in time, but only to be re-instated moments later, after one ‘big shot’ from Mbarara intervened with powers from above, which could have annoyed FMU into punishing Busingye and co by denying them.

And instead, FMU in conjunction with MPU-Motorsport organized the event that was later won by Yassin Nasser.

In the meeting, the members also agreed to refresh their allegiance to the club by registering newly and vigilantly with a fresh registration process and requirements put in place.
