The Masaza Cup is set to make a triumphant return to Nakivubo after a 12-year absence, with Kyaddondo FC officially securing Hamz Stadium (formerly Nakivubo War Memorial Grounds) as their home ground for the 2025 season.

The milestone agreement was signed on Thursday at Hamz Stadium by Kyaddondo Ssaza FC officials in the presence of Rogers Mulindwa, chairman of the stadium board, and vice manager Hakim Kasirye.

Representing Kyaddondo were Kabaka’s chief Ahmed Magandaazi Matovu (the Kaggo) and team chairperson Khalid Simbwa, both expressing enthusiasm for the move.

“This is a long-awaited return,” said Kaggo. “Our city-based fans, especially business owners, can now easily attend matches. They no longer need to travel to Gayaza.”

Previously hosting games at Hormisdallen School in Gayaza, Kyaddondo’s return to central Kampala is expected to boost attendance and morale. Kaggo praised Hamz Stadium management for approving the request and expressed hope that the venue will inspire the team to end its 17-year trophy drought—Kyaddondo’s last title came in 2008, also at Nakivubo.

Mulindwa assured fans that Hamz Stadium is fully prepared to host the matches safely, promising comprehensive security measures to ensure smooth operations and minimal disruption to city life.

In related news, the Masaza Cup organizing committee held a symposium at Makerere School of Public Health, where officials from all 18 participating teams gathered. The tournament fixtures were unveiled, with defending champions Buddu FC set to face Gomba in the opener at Kitovu, Masaka, on June 21.

The sports minister, addressing attendees, apologized for previous tournament missteps and urged unity and love for Buganda to ensure a successful 2025 edition.

As excitement builds, fans and stakeholders are looking forward to an action-packed season and a potential new chapter in Kyaddondo FC’s storied history.
