Sommet face a crucial weekend in the National Basketball League playoff race, with a tough double-header that could define their season.
The side will first meet Rezlife Saints on Saturday at Rezlife Lubowa before returning to action on Sunday against Victoria Crocs at YMCA Wandegeya.
With the table tightly packed in the middle, Sommet sit sixth with 21 points from 13 games just above Victoria Crocs and JKL Dolphins, and within reach of the top four.
“We know these two games are very important for our season. We must stay focused, disciplined, and fight hard for every possession,” said Sommet head coach Albert Aciko.
Sommet’s playoff hopes remain alive, but their margin for error is very small. Two wins from the weekend would lift them to 25 points and firmly strengthen their push into the top four, putting them in direct competition with teams like UCU Canons and even Namuwongo Blazers, depending on other results.
“Our target is to stay consistent defensively and execute better offensively, because every game now feels like a playoff final,” Aciko added.
If Sommet win only one game, they will likely remain on 23–24 points, keeping them in contention but still under pressure heading into the final stretch of the season.
“Every team is pushing for the playoffs, so we cannot afford mistakes or lose concentration during crucial moments,” Aciko noted.
However, losing both matches would be a major setback. It would leave them stuck on 21 points and open the door for Victoria Crocs, JKL Dolphins, and JT Jaguars to overtake them in the standings.
The Saturday clash against Rezlife Saints is expected to be the toughest assignment. Saints sit third on 24 points and are fighting for a top-two finish. Sommet will need defensive discipline and improved game management to avoid slipping further behind in the race.
Sunday’s encounter against Victoria Crocs is equally significant. Crocs are just behind Sommet on 20 points and desperate for results in what promises to be a direct playoff battle.
Elsewhere, Saturday’s women’s fixtures will see JKL Lady Dolphins face UPDF Lady Tomahawks, before KIU Rangers take on UCU Lady Canons. In the men’s category, JKL Dolphins will battle Namuwongo Blazers, followed by UMU Flames against UPDF Tomahawks.
On Sunday at YMCA Wandegeya, Angels will play JKL Lady Dolphins in the women’s division, before Miracle Eaglets face JT Lady Jaguars. Victoria She Crocs will later meet KIU Rangers. The other men’s fixture on Sunday will see KCCA Panthers take on UCU Canons.
