The 2023 Pearl of Africa Rally lacked that vibe usually brought about by the big entry list of foreign crews.

However, the event lived up to its high standards as local crews put up a big fight that kept the motorsport fans entertained throughout the event.

Notably was the grueling race for the 2WD category between Ibrahim Lubega popularly known as Pasuwa and rival Oscar Ntambi.

Ntambi beat Lubega to win the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally in the 2WD category, but the former believes it is not yet over.

“He has beaten us today and I congratulate him. But it is not over, we are taking the war to Hoima,” Lubega said.

“Yes, I’m leading the 2WD category and my target is to claim back my title he took last year.”

Lubega finished second in the 2WD category but was seventh overall in the whole rally and Umar Kakyama is the other 2WD category driver.

The Kyaggwe county-based driver in Mukono is one of the crowd's favourite in the rally fraternity.
