Latibu ‘Dancing Master’ Muwonge’s blockbuster bout against Tanzania’s Karim Migea will headline a series of boxing thrillers on Liberation Day, January 26, at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
Under the floodlights of the newly constructed Hamz Stadium, Muwonge vs. Migea will be the first boxing fight of 2025 hosted at this multi-purpose stadium and the second since Isaac Zebra Ssenyange’s national super welterweight title triumph over Abbas Seguya during its official opening on June 1, 2024.
The two will battle for ten rounds in a World Africa Boxing Association (WABA) super lightweight elimination fight.
Organized by Big Strikers International, the event will also feature two other exciting matches: welterweight Isaac ‘Sparta’ Ssebuufu, brother to Olympian David Ssemujju, will take on Tanzania’s Laurent Segu, and welterweight Jjunju Power will face another Tanzanian, Frank Yaredi.
Muwonge, who is training intensively at Hamz Fitness Gym located in the same stadium, is confident and ready to defeat Migea.
“I want to commend Hajji Hamis Kiggundu for granting us this opportunity. We all know the history of this stadium with boxing. With many of our legends being groomed at Nakivubo, I can say boxing has finally returned home,” Muwonge told Vision Sport.
He added, “I have trained well and am in good shape to serve my fans what I’m best known for. So let this Tanzanian come well prepared because I’m going to swallow him live.”
Salim Uhuru, the Uganda Professional Boxing Commission president and Kampala Central Division Mayor, said, “Our plan is to make Hamz Stadium our official home for pro boxing. We thank Ham, the stadium developer, for the investment into such a world-class facility.”
This will be Muwonge’s 13th pro fight since making his debut in March 2019, with the Zana-based trailblazer winning ten of his last twelve fights before losing twice. His last fight was a loss to Tanzanian Abbada Ferouz Cadabra.
A total of twelve fights are lined up for the day, including a female boxing match between Uganda’s featherweight Marion Akankwasa and Sweden’s Sandra Attermo. Other Ugandans set to fight include electric featherweight Innocent Tumusiime, Special Forces Command (SFC)’s welterweight Justin Okello, and heavyweight Joseph Mpungu, among others.
