It was a case of sweet revenge for St. Mary’s Secondary School Kitende, as they defeated traditional rivals Budo Secondary School 26-24 in the National Novices tournament held at Lubiri Secondary School.

The victory came just a week after Kitende lost to Budo 31-25 in the Elites tournament.

Kitende’s team captain, Topista Achieng, attributed the win to teamwork and self-belief.

“We were focused and wanted to prove that we can beat them when we are determined to achieve our goal, and we did it,” Achieng said.

She added that the team is not resting on its laurels, with the National Rally in Masaka scheduled for the weekend of the 28th.

“We are going to train and avoid complacency because our focus is on more wins in the tournaments that follow,” Achieng noted.

Richard Muhumuza, the Netball Uganda Vice President in charge of technical affairs, presented the trophy to Kitende, who emerged victorious in the 11-team tournament.

Muhumuza expressed satisfaction that the event concluded successfully without any officiating issues.

“I am excited to have such a competitive tournament. All the teams were good, and you could not predict who would win it,” Muhumuza said.

He added that he expects an even more competitive National Rally in Masaka, where clubs, universities, and schools will compete.
