King Mohammed VI has commended Moroccans for organizing a successful 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Senegal won AFCON 2025 with a 1-0 victory over hosts Morocco in the final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on January 18, 2026.

A royal statement shared by the Kingdom read: “At the conclusion of the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, enthusiastically hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, wishes to extend His thanks to all components of the nation who contributed admirably to the complete success of this magnificent event.

The King particularly commended all citizens, across the various cities of the Kingdom, for the efforts made and thanked each and every one for their valuable contribution to this historic success, recognized and praised worldwide.

The Sovereign extended his compliments to the millions of Moroccan women, men, and children who continuously supported, each in their own way and always in an exemplary manner, their national team, now ranked as the 8th best national team in the world.

“This remarkable achievement was notably the result of a proactive, high-level sports and infrastructure policy, as well as the patriotic choice made by talented children of Moroccans of the World to wear the national team jersey and defend its colors with pride and excellence,” the statement pointed out.

It continued that: “This edition of the continental competition will remain memorable, as beyond its outstanding sporting results, it has highlighted the qualitative leap achieved by the Kingdom on the path of development and progress, the fruit of a long-term vision and of a singular and effective Moroccan model that places the citizen at the heart of all ambitions.

“Moreover, even if this great continental football celebration hosted by the Kingdom appears to have been regrettably marred by the unfortunate episode of the final minutes of the match opposing the national teams of Morocco and Senegal, during which regrettable incidents and highly deplorable acts occurred, it remains nonetheless certain that once emotions subside, inter-African fraternity will naturally prevail, for this Moroccan success is also an African success. Morocco remains proud to have offered, on its soil, a month of popular joy and sporting emotion, and to have contributed to the radiance of Africa and its football."

The statement added: “Furthermore, in the face of denigration and certain attempts at discrediting, His Majesty the King, may God assist Him, remains convinced that hostile designs will never achieve their aims, that the Moroccan people know how to put matters into perspective, and that they will not be drawn into resentment or discord. Nothing can alter the closeness cultivated over centuries between our African peoples, nor the fruitful cooperation built with the various countries of the Continent and strengthened through ever more ambitious partnerships.

"The Kingdom of Morocco is and will remain a great African country, faithful to the spirit of fraternity, solidarity, and respect that it has always upheld towards its Continent. In accordance with the enlightened Vision of the Sovereign, Morocco will continue its determined and steadfast commitment to a united and prosperous Africa, notably through the mutual sharing of its experiences, expertise, and know-how.”
