Kigulu FC has defeated Bukooli Bugiri 1-0 to secure victory as the first round of the MTN Busoga Masaza Cup football tournament climaxed on Sunday, August 25th, 2024.
Kigulu secured a win during match day five of the MTN Busoga Masaza Cup as it played Bukooli Bugiri at Iganga Ssaza ground in Iganga district.
Kigulu now tops the Bukowe group with a clear seven points, thanks to Simon Peter Okalong who scored in the 47th minute of the second half.
Okalong’s goal came from a corner kick and headed the ball at close range direct into the back of the net to give the home team a deserved lead.
Though they all jumped into the air, Bukooli Bugiri’s goalkeeper Emmanuel Suudi failed to grip the ball.

Okalong also missed so many chances to score a brace during the match and Kigulu’s senior defender plus Bukooli Bugiri’s captain, Yakub, did great defending for their teams.
Kigulu’s assistant coach Meddie Ngobi said his boys managed to handle the game until the last minute and harvested 3 points.
With so far three matches played, Ngobi said they are on top of the table adding that in the first match, they played an away match with Luuka FC and defeated it 1-0.
Their second game was against Bunha at their home ground where they drew 1-1 and their third game was against Bukooli Bugiri at Iganga Saza ground which they beat 1-0 and managed to be elevated to seven points in the group.

Okalong said he was happy that he scored for his team adding that he got his team out of the hard situation it was in before scoring.
The Bukooli Bugiri coach, Musa Lukungu, said the match was not hard but, in the end, there must be a winner and a loser.
Lukungu added that they will intensify training to produce good results in the second round.
Elsewhere, Busiki FC beat Bulamoji FC 1-0 at Namutumba Primary School grounds.
