Patrick Otidi, the Eastern Region kick-boxing coordinator has urged the private sector to allocate resources to sports.

While addressing sports media in Soroti on Thursday, Otidi noted that kickboxing as a sport is not well-known due to lack of funding.

“We urge different private sector members, well-wishers, politicians and the clergy to come out and give a hand to the young boys and girls who are currently undertaking kickboxing as a sport," stated Otidi..

Otidi said whereas other sectors such as football, athletics, handball, netball, volleyball and hockey among other sports disciplines, kickboxing is not doing well with funds to spread the sport.

He said, "many talents are failed to due to a lack of support. I urge the private sectors such as bus companies, the banks, the business community and well-wishers to support kickboxing."

He also urged the government to invest more in sports to enable the identification and nurturing of more talents.

Joseph Opio, a kick boxer attached to Soroti Kickboxing Club said on many occasions, he has been chosen to represent the country internationally, but due to funding, he has never travelled

“I am ready to take up my tasks in international competitions but the only challenge is always funding," said Opio.

According to Opio, in 2020, he was among the 20 fighters who were picked to represent Uganda in Egypt, an international competition that attracted successful kickboxers from Africa.
