Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) Stallions defied the odds when they won bronze at the recently concluded Hockey Africa Cup of Club Championships in Blantyre, Malawi on Sunday when they beat Genetrix 3-1 in the third-place playoff match.

Stallions moved 2,400km by road to Malawi with a clear motive of returning home with silverware on the neck of each player and perfectly executed it with winning bronze at the tourney.

Brian Bayule opened the scoring of the stallions with a perfectly struck hardball in the 18th minute, Allan Malit in the 37th minute and Bayule sealed the win with a 57th minute goal.

Stallions won four of the six games and lost two, however, the resilience of the team in withstanding the fatigue due to travelling a long distance only encouraged them to work hard and get the job done.

Alfred Agaba, Stewart Kavuma, Dulf Musoke, and Jordan Mpiima were some of the most outstanding players on the stallion’s team who played their hearts out in their quest for silverware.

The team also defended well in short corners where the first and second dashers showed great improvement in counterattacking the attacks of the opponents in a tightly contested area.

Stallions are the first Ugandan side to get a medal at the ACCC hence setting the bar high for themselves to improve in the next edition if they make it there while other clubs will have to equal or better their performance.

Egyptian hockey giants Sharkla beat Kenyan-based Western Jaguars 4-2 in the final at Kamuzu Upper Stadium.

The only two games the stallions lost were against the sides that played in the finals, which depicted how superior they were to the stallions.
