KeMU dominated the males’ competitions as Ndejje topped the ladies contest with 9 and 5 medals in both categories respectively.

Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) and Ndejje topped the Taekwondo competitions as the East Africa University Games raged on in Luwero, close of Monday.

KeMU dominated the males’ competitions as Ndejje topped the ladies contest with 9 and 5 medals in both categories respectively.

In topping the males’ competition KeMU picked gold in the Male Fin weight (-54 Kgs) through Gerald Kiplangat, Peter Wambugu in the Fly weight (-58 Kgs); Johnstone Itenya (Male Light weight, (-74 Kgs) and Zakaria Matangwe in the Welter weight -80kgs.

Ndejje martial artists Ivan Ogen Oyet, Edwin Musenge, Ivan Ojara, Beshir Andala settled for silver and bronze medals in the respective categories, where Makerere’s Tonny Ssenyonga (-58kgs), Frank Griffins, Oketa Yot Bongomin, Mount Kenya’s Stephen Airo as well as Gulu University’s Bonny Obwir and Maseno’s Hillary Ouma settled for silver and bronze respectively.

Ndejje’s medalists in the female category included Maurine Amono who won gold in the Featherweight -57kgs category where KeMU’s Joan Wathera picked silver; Florence Niyigena and Berthe Iranezeza who picked gold and silver respectively in the Lightweight -62kgs category.

KeMU’s Eunice Emilly, Makerere’s Florence Namanda, Kisii’s Gamillar Mukhwana, Maseno’s Tracy Khan Osicho, Ndejje’s Fatuma Naigaga and KeMU’s Esther Nzive were some of the other top players in the welterweight, Middle and Heavyweight categories respectively.
