KCCA desperate to reset season momentum against plucky Maroons

KCCA last featured before the league paused last week to accommodate the 2026 Presidential Elections, and memories of that outing remain fresh and painful.

The Kasasiro Boys head into the contest second on the table with 26 points, just one behind leaders and defending champions Vipers SC, and under increasing pressure from the chasing pack.

KCCA FC will be desperate to return to winning ways and reclaim top spot in the Uganda Premier League when they visit Lugazi Prisons Grounds today to face Maroons in one of the day’s key fixtures.

The Kasasiro Boys head into the contest second on the table with 26 points, just one behind leaders and defending champions Vipers SC, and under increasing pressure from the chasing pack.

SC Villa are level on 26 points, while Police and Entebbe UPPC follow closely with 24 and 23 points, sitting third, fourth and fifth respectively.

With the title race already finely poised, anything short of victory could prove costly for coach Brian Ssenyondo’s side.

KCCA last featured before the league paused last week to accommodate the 2026 Presidential Elections, and memories of that outing remain fresh and painful.

A disappointing 2-0 away defeat to Police, their second loss on the road this season, drew a furious reaction from head coach Ssenyondo and the club’s supporters.

Ssenyondo branded the performance unacceptable and demanded a response, insisting his players must show commitment and respect for the club badge, starting with today’s encounter.

There is, however, renewed optimism in the KCCA camp.

Attacking midfielder Bright Anukani and Angolan winger Etienne Katenga have returned from injury, while Emmanuel Anyama is back from suspension, giving Ssenyondo more options as he seeks to reignite his side’s attacking spark.

Standing in KCCA’s way is a Maroons side that has turned Luzira into a difficult hunting ground. The Prison Warders are unbeaten at home this season, having already beaten SC Villa, Express and Lugazi, while holding URA, NEC and Calvary to draws.

Those results underline the scale of the task facing KCCA, who will need to be at their very best to leave Luzira with maximum points. Notably, KCCA have not beaten Maroons away from home since 2018.

Maroons also have their own motivation. They are seeking redemption after a narrow 1-0 defeat away in Hoima City to Buhimba United Saints in their previous outing and will be eager to bounce back in front of their home supporters.

Recent history points to a tight contest. The two sides played out a goalless draw in Luzira last season and a 1-1 stalemate at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

Elsewhere, Police host bottom-placed Calvary at the Kira Road Police Arena, knowing victory could lift them as high as second on the table.

In Bombo, UPPC Entebbe will be aiming for back-to-back away wins when they face UPDF. Fresh from a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over URA, the Printers will be looking to maintain their upward momentum.
