KCB Nkumba’s women’s volleyball team aiming to extend their unbeaten run when they face VVC on Saturday and Seroma on Sunday in the National Volleyball League (NVL) Serie A.
The team finished the first round of the league unbeaten and are now just two matches away from completing the second round unbeaten.
Coach Tony Lakony said the double-header will not be easy.
“We are expecting a very tough match and we have to be at our best. They have a different style of play from most other teams and we will do what we need to do for the match,” he said.
KCB Nkumba’s women have played 16 matches so far, winning all of them. They have secured 48 sets and lost 11, giving them the best set ratio of 4.36 in the league. A win over both VVC and Seroma this weekend would extend their perfect record to 18 wins and solidify their top position.
Winning one and losing one would likely keep them at first place, thanks to the strong set ratio. Losing both matches could slightly reduce their points but KCB Nkumba would remain ahead of Sport-S (35 points) and VVC (33 points).
“I am happy with the team. Many people thought we would do well for a new team. It was our first time there, so it was a good chance to go and learn,” Lakony said.
“The girls have shown focus, teamwork, and determination. Every match is a chance to improve, and we are ready for both games this weekend,” he added.
Other Serie A women’s games see KCCA face UCU on Saturday at Old Kampala Arena, as the two sides battle to strengthen their positions heading into the playoffs. Sport-S take on UPDF, hoping to keep pressure on the league leaders, while KU meet Seroma.
In the men’s Serie A, Sport-S will face Police on Saturday at MTN Arena, aiming to maintain their push near the top of the standings. KU will take on KCCA in another competitive clash that could influence playoff seeding. The biggest match comes on Sunday at Old Kampala Arena, where Nemo will encounter Sport-S.
Regular season games will end next week on wednesday and the 2025–2026 NVL playoffs will start next weekend, March 21–22, featuring Serie A and B teams across both genders.
