Ugandan rally drivers Oscar Ntambi, Nasser Mutebi and Mike Mukula Jr. of the KCB Racing Team are ready to take on the challenging terrain of eastern Uganda at the upcoming MPU Mbale Rally, boosted by a sh380mn sponsorship from KCB Bank.

The sponsorship was unveiled on Monday, March 23, at the bank’s headquarters in Kampala.

The rally, set for March 27–28 across Mbale and Bukedea districts, will test drivers with a mix of technical sections and rough surfaces.

Ntambi enters the race in strong form after his recent victory in the ARC 2 category at the WRC Safari Rally in Naivasha, making him a top contender for a podium finish.

Beyond this event, the 2026 National Rally Championship (NRC) marks a historic moment for Ugandan motorsport. For the first time since the championship began in the 1960s, a single company is sponsoring the entire season.

KCB Bank signed a landmark deal with the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) to fund all eight NRC events, securing naming rights across the championship. Each rally will now be officially called a KCB Bank NRC rally.

The bank has committed sh560m for the season. Managing Director Edgar Byamah called it an initial investment with room to grow, noting that while KCB has supported the NRC since 2007, this full-season commitment reflects the sport’s growing popularity.

FMU President Jimmy Akena welcomed the partnership as a long-overdue breakthrough, saying previous sponsorships were often fragmented and limited to individual events.

“This marks a turning point for motorsport in Uganda,” Akena said. “KCB Bank’s commitment to the entire season provides the stability that has eluded us for decades.”
