Kampala Youth Football Challenge Cup director Dennis Angura has rallied more academies to participate in this year's tournament slated for December 9 at St Cyprian Kyabakadde in Luzira.

“We are ready to have more academies and schools in this year’s edition of the Cup with more than 20 academies expected to be part," Angura said.

“We call upon all academies interested in showcasing talent to take part in this year’s championship to ensure that the talented boys get exposed and the lucky ones get scouted to academies where scholarships are offered.”

This is the third edition of the tournament that kicked off in 2021 and is held on an annual basis every December with last year having a significant increase in the number of sides that took part.

The tournament will be played in two categories with the U9 and u13 boys in which they will respectively compete.

Kings of Kings won last year’s U9 and African Hearts won the U13 category.

The tournament’s major objective is to promote a platform on which schools and academies bring together young talented football players and they compete amongst themselves to identify and promote talent.

“We would like to give hope to young boys who look up to sport as a source of livelihood through academic scholarships and possible signing to major clubs within and outside the country.”

Challenges

Angura called on the Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA) to embrace the initiative and support the tournament.

“We kindly request UYFA to support the initiative of promoting the talent of the Young lads even though most academies have not registered with the association,”

We appeal to UYFA to help us with some equipment like balls, nets, and goal posts to enable the initiative of promoting talent from grass grassroots level a success,” Angura concluded.
