Victor Kalenzi and Holly Agamire produced the best gross scores of 86 and 115 in 18 holes, respectively, as the Entebbe Juniors Golf tournament ended at Entebbe Club on Friday.

Kalenzi, 13, an eighth-grade student at Taibah International School, notched two birdies to beat his nearest opponent, Daniel Oburu, by 7 strokes.

“I feel very happy because I practiced very hard for this tournament, and my practice paid off,” Kalenzi said.  “I just came to play to my best, not expecting to win, but I ensured I didn’t make many mistakes but I scored well on all the par 5s because of my driving distance.

“I would like to thank Entebbe Club for hosting this tournament at the beginning of the year because most of us haven't gone back to school.  And I would also like to thank my parents for allowing me to travel long distances for such tournaments,” said Kalenzi, who started the game at 3 years old and is attached to the Tooro Club. He is now looking to extend his prowess in the US Kids tournament.

On her part, Agamire, 15, an S.3 student at Mengo SS, who is attached to the Palm Valley Golf and Country Club, was the only girl who competed over 18 holes and matched to her first juniors’ title. “It is a privilege to win this.  I have had hectic practice ever since December when I came back from school,” Agamire said.

“I trust my 7-iron, and it is the one that I banked on whenever my driver disappointed,” I would say. “I’d like to thank God for this, because there are times in this tournament where I felt like I was failing, but surprisingly, he passed me through.” I dedicate this win to my coach, my parents who paid for my participation, and God,” Agamire stated.

Entebbe Club captain Serwano Walusimbi thanked parents for supporting their children’s participation, highlighting the value of learning skills, overcoming challenges on the course, and applying problem-solving to real life.

He also thanked the Uganda Golf Union for supporting the juniors’ tournaments in the country. Lady Captain Moureen Okura and the immediate past captain, Jovia Tugume, encouraged participants to maintain discipline both on and off the course. She encouraged them to continuously practice in order to develop their craft.
