Kabale District will welcome the Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association (UPSSA) National Kids Athletics and Special Needs Education Games from May 5-14, 2025, marking the first time the region has hosted the event since 1991.

The decision followed a thorough inspection by UPSSA executives and Ministry of Education officials, who approved Kabale's competition venues, accommodation, medical services, and sanitation facilities.

"Kabale demonstrated remarkable preparedness with ideal facilities and organizational structure for this national event," said UPSSA President William Bwambale. Athletes will be accommodated at Kigezi High School Primary Lower, Kabale Primary School, National Teachers College, and Kabale Main Stadium.

The championships, contested between Kabale Municipality and Sironko District for hosting rights, will feature participants from 160 districts - including 8,000 athletes and 1,500 officials. Events will unfold at Kabale High School Primary and Kabale Stadium.

Local officials highlighted the economic and cultural benefits. "This boosts demand for local services while showcasing our heritage," noted Alex Biryomumisho, UPSSA Kabale Chairperson, though he called for infrastructure upgrades.

Grace Munyambabazi, Kabale's Principal Education Officer, confirmed the municipality's readiness, while Ministry official Gilbert Orikiriza emphasized the games' role in talent development: "We're identifying future representatives for East African and international competitions."

The event returns to western Uganda after three decades, offering young athletes a platform to shine while stimulating Kabale's local economy through this major sporting showcase.
