Ugandan professionals get an opportunity to cash in from the opening championship of the season,, the Kabalaza Golf Championship at Entebbe Club, February 5-7.

Entebbe Club’s David Kamulindwa, who finished on top of the 2025 local Order of Merit standings, will lead the charge, having finished second overall in last year’s event won by Ronald Rugumayo.

Kamulindwa, who competed in 12 events last year and made the cut in all, garnered 92.55 points to finish on top of the standings.

He won four events last year, including the Equity-NARO Professionals Golf Open championship, the Watoto Golf fundraiser tournament at Kitante, the Stanbic Entebbe, and the Kinyara Opens.

The Kabalaza contest that will be played over 36 holes presents an opportunity for the Tooro Club-bred golfer, who has so far registered seven career wins since turning pro in 2018, to begin the season on a high.

Other top contenders expected include Grace Kasango, Saidi Mawa, and Abraham Ainamani, who all made the top five last year. The sh10m tournament will set this year’s Entebbe Club calendar in motion on Thursday, as part of another action-packed calendar featuring over 15 major tournaments spread across every month.

The three-day championship will start on Thursday, February 5, with a professional’s and a 54-hole amateur’s event before the subsidiary event on Saturday. The event, sponsored by the members of the club and well-wishers, has since its inception evolved into a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event for elite amateurs, both men and ladies. They will not only play for world ranking points over three rounds (54 holes) but also cash (sh7m and sh3m for the men and ladies, respectively). There will be a cut, with only those who make the cut playing the final round on Saturday.

According to Michael Tumusiime, one of the organizers, the cut is aimed at increasing competitiveness. The event will be played under the theme of "Golf with a Purpose." Refurbishment of the Caddy shade and their sanitary facilities is the CSR project attached to this year’s event.

Lake Victoria Serena’s Ivan Ssekulima and Tooro Club’s Peace Kabasweka are the defending amateur champions.
