JT Lady Jaguars will look to return to winning ways when they face KCCA Leopards in the National Basketball League on Friday 20th, at YMCA Wandegeya.
The Kira-based side comes into the game after a 78–68 loss to defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins last week at the Arena. Despite placing four players in double figures, the Lady Jaguars dropped to 2–1 on the season.
Sandra Wangeshi led the team with 13 points off the bench. She added two rebounds and three assists, shooting 3-of-7 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. She was supported by Bridget with 11 points and Rhoda who added 10.
The Lady Jaguars started strongly, scoring 40 points in the first half with good ball movement and controlled tempo. However, the game changed in the third quarter when JKL went on a 14–2 run to open a 12-point lead. Brenda Akone punished turnovers in transition as the champions used their experience to close out the game.
Wangeshi believes the team is ready to respond.
“We know we did not finish well in the last game, but we have worked harder this week and corrected our mistakes together.”
She added that the team has improved, especially on defence.
“Our defence is improving every day, communication is better and we are learning from our mistakes. We are ready to fight for every possession.”
JT Lady Jaguars currently top the table with five points from three games, having registered two wins and one loss. A victory on Friday will strengthen their position.
KCCA Leopards, however, are unbeaten this season. They have won both their opening games and will be chasing a third straight victory.
Meanwhile, Wednesday’s women’s fixtures saw Miracle Eaglets bounce back with a 57–43 win over Angels at RezLife Court in Lubowa. Nakato scored 17 points while Namugabo added 11. Angels’ Joan Namatovu scored 11 points.
At YMCA, JKL Lady Dolphins thrashed Magic Stormers 86–49, while Pearls Queens edged KIU Rangers 50–49 at ABJA Park to earn their first win of the season.
