The inaugural Women in Football Bonanza took place at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel on November 30.

Organised by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) in partnership with Guinness Uganda, the event featured a panel discussion on good governance and its role in creating a conducive environment for women in football.

Equal coverage of women's football was also discussed, with youth state minister Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi pointing out the lack of media attention compared to men's football.

Throughout the event, attendees were treated to music interludes from the Double Black Band, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere.

The audience also had the opportunity to voice their opinions and propose actions for improving women's football in Uganda.

Roy Ronald Tumwizere, the Guinness brand manager, expressed the brand's commitment to bringing women's football to the forefront.

He emphasised Guinness's support for FUFA in their journey to grow women's football and their alignment with inclusivity.

The celebration included a sumptuous dinner and an award ceremony honouring individuals who have made significant contributions to women's football in Uganda.

Recipients included Mama Beeca, Adipo Constance Catharine Wejuli, Annet Nakimbugwe, Paul Ssali, Ayub Kalifa, Chris Kalibala, Mayanja Betty and the leadership of Kawempe Moslem School.

The night ended with a lively performance from singer Azawi, bringing guests together on the dance floor and marking a fitting conclusion to the celebration of women's football and the progress made towards gender equality in the sport.
