Uganda is one of the countries, which are considered lucky having been able to take part in all the 13 editions of the All-Africa Games and the African Games since their inception in 1965.

It is now 59 years and Uganda has a total of 107 medals.

At the just concluded edition, Uganda managed to collect 20 medals including four (gold), six (Silver), and ten bronze medals, and were ranked 13th overall having fielded a total of 156 athletes.

However, many Ugandans may be deceived by the 20 medals from the concluded edition in Accra that it is the best performance of team Uganda that team Uganda has ever had but not at all.

At the Games in Lagos in 1976, Uganda scooped six gold, three silver, and three bronze medals.  This dragged Uganda to a fourth overall finish bettering its first edition participation where a silver medal and four bronze medals were won in the inaugural games where we finished 14.

This was still the best performance of Team Uganda at the games.

In the 1978 edition held in the Algerian capital Algiers, Uganda scooped 14 medals with three gold, six silver, and five bronze medals but managed to finish ninth overall.

The 1987 Nairobi edition saw Uganda finish ninth overall, winning a total of nine medals, three gold, two silver, and 4 bronze.

The next six editions witnessed a decline until the 2019 Rabat edition where 10 medals were collected but no gold, two silver, and eight bronze which made Uganda finish 29th overall.

With top government officials at the games, the assumption is they have learned vital lessons on how to improve our athletes' level of competition and look forward to clinching more medals at the forthcoming games to be held in Egypt in 2027.
