Victoria University emerged champions of rugby in the 20th edition of the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games, clinching gold at Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono.
The Kampala-based side secured the title after winning four of their five matches in the round-robin format.

They defeated Makerere University 22–0, Kampala International University (KIU) 47–5, and Kyambogo University 28–0, before narrowly losing to former champions Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) 14–12.
Despite the defeat, Victoria collected enough points to finish top of the table.
Victoria University tallied 13 points, one ahead of UMU, who settled for silver with 12 points. Makerere University finished third with 11 points to claim bronze. UCU came fourth with 10 points, KIU fifth with 9, while Kyambogo trailed in sixth place with 5 points.
Team captain Calvin Gizamba credited the victory to teamwork and determination, noting that the loss to UMU was a valuable lesson.

“Yes, we lost the last game to UMU, but the most important thing is that we won the gold. We will go back and correct our mistakes as we prepare for next season,” Gizamba said.
Both Uganda Rugby Union Secretary Peter Odongo and AUUS President George Wagoogo pledged to collaborate in boosting rugby participation across universities, highlighting the sport’s growing presence in the AUUS Games.
