Uganda successfully retained the FIM Central Africa Motocross Championship after tallying 2,653 points, against hosts Kenya who pooled 1,588 points in two legs.
 
Team Uganda collected 1,070 points against 1,180 for the hosts but the former took advantage of the first leg in which they won 1,583 points, 1,175 Points ahead of Kenya who had 408 points.

Ali Omar Yaser, the rider's parent was impressed with the performance of Team Uganda and urged for better organisation and teamwork.

“We had a big number of riders (58) and we put up a better performance than before. I have to thank the Federation which supported us as parents,” Omar said.

“We only need to improve on our organisation as a team, otherwise the future of motocross is bright.” 

Denis Musedde who was the foreign teams’ coordinator also lauded Uganda riders for the spirited fight to fly the Uganda flag and urged for continued teamwork in the future.

Individual champions

Gift Sebuguzi won all three heats in the 85cc class to emerge champion beating off stiff opposition Lewis Ogonyi.

It was a consolation victory for the 2022 African Champion who could not defend his title this year due to an injury suffered at the World Junior Championship in Romania.

In the 65cc Class, Jonathan Katende won the last two heats on Sunday and Ramathan Mubiru came second. Katende emerged as the 2023 FIMCAC champion with Mubiru as the runners-up.

He beat a stiff challenge from teammate Mubiru and Kenya’s top racer Kigan Mutuma.

In the MX125 cc class, former Uganda President Milton Obote's grandson Milton Akaki Obote was on fire winning two of the three heats and finishing second in one to emerge the winner of the day and 2023 FIM CAC champion.

Akaki beat tough opposition from Kenya’s Neo Wahome and teammates Waleed Omar, and Jeremiah Mawanda who came second, third, and fourth respectively.

An excited Akaki said,” I’m very happy winning both the national title and the East Africa title. My target is now to defend them and also go for the FIM Africa trophy.”

In the 50cc class, Jude Kyle Musedde lost to Kenya's Amani Amani, but Musede emerged overall champion following his better performance in the first Leg in Busiika.
