Pirates 17 Heathens 12
The Heathens secured the National Sevens title after a spirited performance at the Rujumba 7s, which concluded at Kings Park in Bweyogerere on Sunday.
Although they performed well earlier in the day, the final was a different challenge.
As in Mbale and Kyadondo, it was a fierce battle, with the score tied at 12-all at the end of regulation time. Conrad Wanyama then found a gap and scored the tie-breaking try, giving the Pirates a 17-12 victory and the Rujumba 7s circuit win.
"We are a team of purpose and we wanted the Rujumba circuit, but it didn’t go our way. That was God’s plan. However, winning the overall title is a source of pride,” explained Heathens 7s captain Malcom Okello.
The Heathens broke an 11-year jinx to win the National Sevens, while the Pirates were left to reflect on missed opportunities.
“We let ourselves down in Entebbe when we got knocked out in the quarterfinals. In the Jinja circuit, we still ended in the quarters, and against Kobs in Mbarara, we ended in the semis, which perhaps cost us the title. We need to play every circuit the way we played today,” said Kisiga.
Avengers Claim First 7s Title
The Avengers celebrated after being knocked out in the semifinals of the National Sevens but still secured the overall title.
“For all the seasons we have played, this is our first time taking the overall title, and that was our primary target,” said Peace Lekuru.
They won the title ahead of the defending champions, Black Pearls, who claimed the National Sevens title.
