Following the construction of HAMZ Stadium Nakivubo, the management has ventured into boxing by opening a new promotion company named HAMZ Promotion.

The company has been fully registered under the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF), the body lawfully responsible for the sport in the country. Its inaugural series, dubbed "The Night of Warriors," will take place on July 25 at HAMZ Stadium.

Announcing the launch, HAMZ representative Dan Lwebuga said that starting a boxing promotion aligns with the management's vision. The stadium already houses a modern boxing gym, which needs to be fully utilized to promote the sport in Uganda.

He added that the management is also looking to give young people the opportunity to develop their talent and reap the immense benefits boxing offers if properly nurtured and guided.

"In addition to talent identification, the promotion company is intended to open opportunities for young boxers to develop their skills through HAMZ Promotion," Lwebuga noted.

Lwebuga is a qualified World Boxing Council (WBC) and Africa Boxing Union (ABU) ring official, also attached to the UBF.

He highlighted several changes the promotion will offer fans, starting with timekeeping at events.

"We shall abide by the new UBF guidelines of ending boxing fights before midnight. We are moving away from finishing fights at odd hours to bring fans back to the sport," Lwebuga added.

According to matchmaker Abu Kimpi, the main fight of the evening will feature Ugandan boxer Jamal Angbay, who lives in London, and Alex Batwawula, based in Jinja.

Over ten bouts are currently on schedule, many featuring debutants from the national boxing open run by the UBF, as well as professional boxers formerly competing under the Uganda Professional Boxing Commission (UPBC).

Abdu Tebazaalwa, a UBF official on the licensing committee, urged boxers to obtain a boxing license before engaging in the sport for their own safety.

National boxing coach Twaib Mayanja emphasized that boxers must secure their fight contracts before stepping into the ring.
