FUBA summons squad for the 2025 AfroBasket qualifiers

Sixteen teams will advance to Africa's top basketball tournament following the qualifications.

The first window will open from February 19 to February 27 in Tunisia

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has summoned a 13-man squad for the 2025 AfroBasket qualifiers.

The Uganda Silverbacks team will be led by Coach Mandy Juruni, and assisted by City Oilers coach Andrew Tendo.

KIU’s guard Edgar Munaba and UCU’s Joel Kayiira earned their first callups on to the team.

Kayiira’s outstanding performance has carried him onto the list of the seven, The UCU guard has been a beast on the court averaging 11 rebounds with an efficiency read of 68.

Munaba has been a key part of the KIU puzzle averaging 16.5 rebounds per game. He adds a boost to the points hunt for Silverbacks with the likes of Ishmail Wainright and Adam Seiko.

“It's my first time to be on the Silverbacks team and I want to thank God for that, I am so happy for this opportunity and I feel it's a motivation to push me to even work harder," he noted.

Munaba believes his efforts to improve his trade over the last three years are finally starting to pay off.

"I've been working so hard to achieve this and I can now confidently say it is beginning to pay off," he added.

Twenty national teams will compete in five groups of four, with each team facing an opponent from their group twice in a tournament style over three windows until 2025.

The first window will open from February 19 to February 27 in Tunisia, and the second and third windows, which are November 18 to November 26 and February 17 to February 25, 2025, respectively, will follow.

On February 23rd, Uganda will be facing Cape Verde, who placed fourth in the most recent AfroBasket, which took place in Rwanda in 2021 and is ranked first in Group B in two-window qualifiers.

 The group also includes Nigeria, and the victor of the Zones 1 and 2 pre-qualifiers between Morocco and Libya.

 The roster also has Fayed Baale,Titus Odeke,Stanley Mugerwa,Tony Drileba,James Okello,Brandon Sebirumbi,Emmanuel Womala and Robinson Opong.
