FMU greenlights inaugural TT Drag & Drift competition

The Federation of Motorsports Clubs in Uganda (FMU) has sanctioned the inaugural TT Drag & Drift event, marking a significant milestone in the country's motorsport calendar.

During the event's launch at the scenic Banana Resort Beach in Bugoba village, Nyenga parish in Buikwe district, FMU Secretary General Reynolds Kibira, flanked by his assistant Jackson Sserwanga, formally announced the partnership between FMU and TT Drag & Drift.

"It is with great pleasure that I announce the formal integration of TT Drag & Drift into the FMU calendar, this event has garnered significant recognition from our federation and will operate under our strict guidelines governing automobile sports,” declared Kibira.

Previously, FMU had concerns regarding the event's adherence to the standardised rules, however, it is now among the valued member of motorsport family.

Scheduled to take place from June 13th to 15th, the TT Drag & Drift event promises an electrifying experience, featuring high octane drag racing, precision Time Trial competitions and the thrilling drifting discipline.

Organised by Motorsports Promo Uganda, a prominent club under the FMU umbrella, the primary aim is to unite motorsport enthusiasts and showcase the exceptional talent that exists within the local motorsport community.

The event's diverse program will captivate fans, with drag racing's raw power, Time Trial's strategic precision and drifting's mesmerizing spectacle combining to create an unforgettable experience.

Moreover, the event will pay tribute to the late rally driver Rajiv Ruparelia, who tragically lost his life in a racing accident. Notably, Rajiv had transitioned from a street racing background to become a respected figure in Ugandan rallying.

According to Bob Muyanja, the event manager, they will honor the memory of Rajiv and other fellow street racers who tragically lost their lives in the pursuit of their passion. 

This solemn acknowledgment serves as a reminder of the risks associated with the sport, while also celebrating the lives and spirits of those who have left an indelible mark on the motorsport fraternity.
