Mbarara rally enthusiasts are gearing up for a high-octane spectacle as the Federation of Motor Clubs in Uganda (FMU) brings autocross back to Mwesigwa Resort in Kiruhura district on Saturday, December 14.
This one-day event, primarily a competition for rally cadets vying for a spot in the Clubman Rally Championship (CRC), also features elite drivers.
Dubbed the Rukaari Lake Mburo Autocross 2024, the competition has already confirmed an exciting entry list, including drivers such as Denis Bahizi, Sean Bahizi, Robert Ssentongo, Andy Musoke, Unissan Bakunda, Humphrey Kawuci, Nasib Sesanga, Walter Kibande, Abasi Mutebi, Gilberto Balondemu, and Timothy Gawaya.
In last year’s event at the same venue, elite driver Ronald Ssebuguzi emerged nearly unchallenged, securing first place with a total time of 9:17.50 minutes. Jonas Kansiime followed in second place with 9:25.40 minutes, while Musa Ssegaabwe completed the podium in third place with 9:34.70 minutes.

Ssebuguzi’s stellar performance, aided by his exceptional driving skills and a top-tier car, was nearly outshone by the young talent of 16-year-old Kevin Bebeto.
Driving a Toyota RunX and navigated by seasoned co-driver Musa Nsubuga, Bebeto impressed the crowd with his exceptional control of corners and roundabouts. His best performance came in the second round, electrifying the hundreds of fans in attendance, including his proud father, Junior Kaka. Mbarara fans are eagerly hoping for Bebeto’s return this year.
“It’s a fantastic event that showcases young, exciting drivers. I hope the young boy comes back because he was my favourite from last year’s event,” said rally enthusiast Moses Ssegawa.
In the junior class of the enduro race, Miguel Katende triumphed after completing 15 laps ahead of his competitors. Jerome Mubiru secured second place, while Jonathan Katende finished third.
The senior category saw fierce competition, with Scott Nicholson clinching victory in the 10-lap challenge. Yassin Ssemakula followed in second place, edging out Sharifah Kateete, one of two female participants alongside Shamilah Kateete.
