The African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 has reached the knockout stage, with all three co-hosts Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, qualifying for the quarter-finals in a historic first for CAF.

Uganda broke their group-stage jinx by drawing 3-3 with South Africa to lead Group C on seven points. The Cranes face Senegal on Saturday in Kampala.

Their success has been powered by tactical discipline, pressing, and standout individual displays:

Joel Mutakubwa
The skipper has led from the back, producing key saves and earning Man of the Match against Niger. Two straight clean sheets highlight his influence.

Allan Okello
Okello has been the creative spark, scoring against Guinea, bouncing back from a missed penalty to score and assist versus Niger and South Africa.

Reagan Mpande
A tireless midfielder, Mpande scored against Guinea and won the foul that led to Uganda’s penalty against Niger.

Joel Sserunjogi
Explosive on the flanks, he assisted against Guinea and scored a thunderous goal versus Niger before suspension ruled him out of the next game.

Hilary Mukundane
Disciplined and dominant in defence, Mukundane has anchored Uganda’s backline, ensuring two consecutive clean sheets.
