Joseph Olinga scored three goals for the Police Field Force Unit (FFU), leading his team to a 5-1 victory over the Police Training School in the IGP Cup Tournament final at Kira Road Police Arena on Friday.
The win secured the overall trophy for FFU, with Olinga grabbing the top scorers award with 5 goals.
In the netball final the ICT department beat Kabalye Police Training School 48-32, despite the latter producing the tournament top scorer, Christine Lamunu who scored 131 goals in the second edition of the annual tournament.
Kira Division finished third overall while Mitooma, Lira City, Iganga and Mbale divisions finished fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth respectively in the netball competition, in the event played under the theme: “Enhancing Fitness and Cohesion Amongst Police officers”.

Addressing the gathering before awarding the winners the Deputy Inspector General of Police James Ochaya appreciated the organisers and participants for a successful event and also thanked the NCS for their partnership.
He said the AIGP is keen on the welfare and wellness of police officers. “He believes when the police officers are healthy and strong they can perform and serve the community better, that is why we are very much concerned that all our police officers must be physically fit. And we are promoting all the sports disciplines because we believe talent resides in every person differently,” Ochaya stated.
Milton Chebet the NCS Assistant General Secretary-Technical who represented the NCS General Secretary thanked the Police force for developing the Kira ground and promised that NCS could partner with them as part of their mandate to promote community sports through infrastructure development. He urged the stadium managers to continuously engage the community to ensure they continue using the stadium.
The director welfare, production and sports AIGP Hadija Namutebi thanked the entire police management for supporting sports in the entire force. She said the event was aimed at talent identification, promoting fitness, promoting cohesion among police officers, relieving stress as well as promoting wellness of police officers.
He said the tournament was zoned out from eight blocks with the champions of each block both in netball and football assembled in Kikandwa for the quarter and semifinals before the final at the refurbished Kira Road Football Arena.
“We would like to encourage these teams to register in their respective regional leagues to ensure they remain active and develop their talents further and we shall offer our technical support,” Namutebi stated.\
