Hundreds of kickboxing fans on Saturday, November 8, 2025, stormed Kaler Primary School grounds in Ngora District to witness the official launch of the intercultural fight between Moses Golola and Dan Okiror, popularly known as “Power Mike,” representing Teso Kingdom.

The opening ceremony, which drew large crowds from both cultural institutions, began with a spiritual blessing led by Rev. Canon Moses Okello, Archdeacon of Mukura in the Church of Uganda, Kumi Diocese.

He urged the fighters to embrace the sport as a unifying activity that strengthens ties between communities.

“Today we are witnessing two cultural institutions coming together to stage a show aimed at uniting the Iteso and Baganda clans. My appeal to the players is to take this game as a unifying sport, not for conflict,” said Rev. Okello.

The intercultural title fight, scheduled for December 20, 2025, at Bukedea Stadium, will be the first-ever six-round cruiserweight contest in the 80–100 kg category.

Daniel Apieun, chairperson of the organizing committee, expressed optimism that the event would foster unity and nurture talent across Uganda’s kingdoms. “This is just the beginning. As promoters, we aim to reach all kingdoms to continue promoting and uniting people through kickboxing. Supporters will pay only 10,000 shillings, an affordable price given our economy. Don’t miss this historic fight,” Apieun said.

Dan Okiror, addressing his supporters, praised the Teso community and organizers for their efforts in ensuring the successful launch. “I thank the organizers for recognizing that Teso has great kickboxers. On December 20, Golola will be chopped like our staple food, Nyayo. That day will prove which kingdom is champion. I call upon all my brothers, sisters, and friends of Teso to stand with Emorimori and our kingdom,” Okiror declared.

Moses Golola, known for his fiery personality, emphasized the power of sports to unite communities. “Sports unite people without conditions. This is a great opportunity to bring togetherness. I promise, with my hot temper, I will win this fight and uplift the pride of Buganda. Our kingdom has always been powerful, and it is my responsibility to keep Buganda on top,” Golola said.

He also stressed the importance of grooming younger fighters to sustain the sport. “Both Dan and I are nearing the exit route. We must build the next generation of fighters. Cultural fights should continue because our kingdoms will endure, even as individuals fade. Let us love and preserve our kingdoms,” Golola added.
