Excitement continues to rock the Tororo community as the municipal authorities prepare to host the national primary schools' sports association UPSSA kids' athletics and para games.
The one-week tournament, to be hosted at Rock High School in Tororo Municipality, is expected to bring together 178 districts, cities, and municipalities with over 6,000 athletes. It will run from May 4 to 14, 2026.
Ayub Alkwan Kisubi, Tororo Municipal Town Clerk, expressed immense pride in welcoming Uganda's primary school sports fraternity to the area, having last hosted the event in 2016.
"We are grateful to the Ministry of Education and Sports in partnership with UPSSA for the trust entrusted to us again to host this prestigious championship in Tororo once more. It's a moment of great excitement and pride, especially given our strong contribution to school sports, particularly athletics," said Ayub.
He called upon visiting teams to show maximum cooperation with the local business community to ensure the success of the event.
Teddy Ajumo Makola, Tororo Municipal Senior Education Officer, said their aim is to win at least one trophy at the conclusion of the games.
"We are the hosts of this year's national games held in Tororo Municipality. Our target is ensuring that we retain some of the trophies in Tororo," Makola explained.
Beatrice Acola, Deputy Mayor of Tororo Municipality, assured the community that she is eager to see them turn up in large numbers to attend the championship.
According to Acola, hosting such a large competition benefits the community, highlighting that the event is not just about competition but also economic opportunity.
