With just days to go before the first-ever Jinja City Marathon, excitement is already running high, with hundreds of participants expressing their enthusiasm for the upcoming event.
According to event coordinator Nelson Balyejusa, tickets—available at Jinja City Hall, Orugu Tours and Travels, and Texol Gas Station—are nearly sold out. The marathon is being held under the theme “Running to Save Lives.”
“It’s an honour to see such a strong response. The Shs 25,000 tickets are almost gone, which shows the public’s commitment to a noble cause,” said Balyejusa. “This event won’t just promote health and unity—it also offers runners a chance to experience the beauty of the Nile and explore Jinja City, thereby boosting local tourism.”
Event publicity secretary Michael Abaliwano added that the main marathon will begin promptly at 6:30 a.m. from the Jinja Rugby Grounds. The event will feature a variety of race categories, including 2km and 5km fun runs, as well as competitive 10km and 21km races.
