Excel Soccer Academy climaxed the year on a high after a successful trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for a training camp for players in the underage category.

The academy director Patrick Gwayambade is thrilled to kick off the year with a training camp for his side ahead of a busy sporting calendar year.

“We are going to work towards equipping the academy players with the relevant footballing knowledge both on and off the pitch with the help of foreign-based coaches,” Gwayambade stated.

He noted this on Sunday at Aches Gardens Kisasi, Kampala during the closing ceremony of a one-week-long training camp held with the help of foreign-based coaches David Clements and Mark Meghan from Celtic FC in Glasgow.

The two coaches commended the academy for the inclusiveness and for having both girls and boys in the setup since football is being taken on by girls/ women as a profession.

“We believe the academy has got very good players who only have to learn a little more in regards to basics like ball control, reception, and endurance during game time but overall, the idea of having both boys and girls also is one to hail Excel about,” Mark Meghan stated during an interview.

The Scottish also advised the academy to consider a bigger playground for the academy as compared to the small one they currently use to give the athletes more room to execute their moves and ability on and off the ball.

“Most of the players here are very talented but only limited due to space. I would urge the academy administration to get a bigger playground to enable these athletes to give out their best.”

Gwayambadde continued to stress the exchange programs as a way of impacting both his coaching staff as well as athletes through the trips they make as a way of improving their potential.

“We so much love to develop our ability as coaches as well as our athletes and it's through these exchange programs where we are brought to book about the various coaching dynamics,”

The academy is set to host former Newcastle player Steven Taylor as part of the bigger plans of having a long-term relationship with Newcastle United.

The academy is also set to tour Paris Stain Germain (PSG) academy in Kigali in the first term holidays to provide more opportunities for the players to showcase their talent at various stages.

The academy players who excelled in various age categories were awarded certificates of recognition by the academy.
