Members of Entebbe Golf Club have warmly welcomed the unveiling of the club’s newly refurbished clubhouse, officially opened after a year-long renovation.

The facelift preserves and showcases the rich heritage of East Africa’s oldest golf club, founded in 1901, offering members and visitors a walk-through history of the game in the region.

The refurbishment marks a major milestone in the fulfilment of commitments under a three-year partnership signed in April 2023 between Entebbe Golf Club and MTN Uganda, through which the telecommunications company pledged to invest in improving the club’s infrastructure.

The facility was unveiled to members over the weekend, with Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka applauding MTN Uganda for its investment and urging members to honor their obligations by supporting the sport and sustaining the partnership.

He noted that the refurbished clubhouse has been restored with meticulous attention to heritage and history, portraying the immersive legacy of Entebbe Golf Club as East Africa’s oldest golf institution.

Visitors can now view original documents dating back to the club’s founding, alongside vintage golf clubs, balls, photographs, and other artefacts that reflect the traditions that shaped the sport in the region. The restored architecture and interior design blend modern comfort with respectful preservation of the club’s origins, creating a dignified and welcoming home for members.

“I applaud MTN Uganda for this meaningful upgrade of the Entebbe Clubhouse. I also encourage members of the club to support sponsors who invest in this institution, because when partners are supported, such progress can be sustained,” Kiwanuka said.

MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Mulinge and Chief Financial Officer Andrew Bugembe led the handover of the facility to the club.

“MTN Uganda is honored to play a part in safeguarding and elevating a place that holds such a special position in Uganda’s sporting history,” Mulinge said. She added that the refurbishment represents a promise delivered and demonstrates MTN Uganda’s belief in partnerships that uplift communities, including through sport.

She reminded members that the opening of the clubhouse follows the completion of the Halfway House (MTN Pod), unveiled in December 2024 as part of the same partnership commitments.

Speaking on behalf of the membership, Entebbe Golf Club chairman Jacob Byamukama expressed deep appreciation to MTN Uganda for its continued commitment. “MTN has given us a home that reflects who we are and where we have come from. Our members finally have a place they can be proud of, and future generations will walk through these rooms and understand the legacy they inherit,” Byamukama said.

The media launch of the refurbished clubhouse also served as a prelude to the MTN Grand Tee of Tees tournament, held over the weekend.
