Eight cricket clubs across the Teso sub-region have confirmed their participation in the Soroti Cricket Carnival celebrations scheduled for December 21, 2024, in Soroti City.

The carnival will feature fun-filled activities, including cricket games, barbecue, music, and performances by top DJs from Soroti and across the country to raise awareness about the academy, the game of cricket, its impact, and future goals.

“Cricket will be one of the key activities to follow during the celebration. A number of teams have confirmed their participation,” said Patricia Acen, assistant head coach of Soroti Cricket Academy.

According to Acen, the event, organized by Soroti Cricket Academy, will register eight men’s and ladies’ teams, including Nakatunya, Senior Quarters, Campswahili, and Pamba Cricket Clubs.

“We’ve stayed true to our vision to create empowered youth with the ability to discover and fulfill their potential. We have done this through sports, education, and mentorship,” said Felix Musana, Chairman of Soroti Cricket Academy.

Musana noted that the Academy’s 10th anniversary celebration will bring together parents, stakeholders, partners, and the community to honor a decade of growth, resilience, and commitment to youth empowerment.

“This journey, which began with just four children, has blossomed into a thriving program with a focus on holistic development, emphasizing not only cricket skills but also educational advancement and social issue sensitization,” Musana explained.

“The academy is now proud to be associated with three cricket grounds, three professional cricket clubs, a partnership with 18 schools, and an impact on 1,800 direct beneficiaries, 25 of whom have represented the national cricket team and collectively won over 14 titles within the 10 years,” added Musana.

On a yearly basis, the academy organizes the January Holiday Camp, U-13 Mini Cricket Challenge for primary schools, U-15 Secondary Schools Tennis Ball Challenge, U-18 Musana Cup for secondary school boys and girls, December Holiday Camp, and many other events for cricketers to improve their skills.

The pool of talent has enabled the formation of three clubs managed by the academy. These clubs compete in the national cricket league: Olila High School, Soroti Challengers CC for the ladies, and Soroti Blazers CC for the gentlemen.

Founded in 2014, the Soroti Cricket Academy is dedicated to promoting cricket as a tool for social change in Uganda.

The academy focuses on youth development through sports, education, and social engagement, providing a supportive environment for young boys and girls to realize their potential both on and off the field.
