After serving two terms as chairman of the Kampala Old Boys (KOBs) Rugby Club, Dr. Stone Tonny Luggya is set to return to his former side, Makerere Impis Rugby Club.

Speaking to Vision Sport, Luggya said he had given his best to the club and that it was now time for new leadership to carry the mantle forward.

“I congratulate my successor. He has been my deputy and knows what our strategy was, what he wants to add on and to achieve,” Luggya said.

“I have washed my hands from the club and will return home to Impis now that I am employed by Makerere University.”

The former KOBs and national team centre currently serves as Head of the Department of Anaesthesia and Emergency Medicine at Makerere University’s School of Medicine in the College of Health Sciences.

Luggya was replaced earlier this month by his vice chairman, Daren Rutagwera, who was elected to lead KCB KOBs for the next two years during the club’s Annual General Assembly held at NOB View Hotel, Ntinda.

Rutagwera begins his tenure with a stern test as KOBs face defending champions Stanbic Black Pirates in the opening round of the rugby championship next Saturday at Kings Park Arena, Bweyogerere, Wakiso District.

Other fixtures on the day include the Black Pearls against the Ewes in the women’s game at 2 p.m., Walukuba versus Plascon Mongers, Impis hosting Warriors, Heathens against newcomers Kakira Simba, Rhinos versus Victoria Sharks, and Jinja Hippos taking on the Buffaloes.
