Dr. Joseph Epodoi, Senior Consultant Surgeon and Urologist at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, is one of six players set to represent the Teso–Karamoja region at this year’s Nile Special National Pool Open Grand Finale.
The regional qualifiers, held at Nature Gardens in Soroti City on Saturday, attracted 32 competitors.
From the men’s category, Ahmed Kaddu, John Omunyin, and Joseph Epodoi secured their places in the grand finale scheduled for December 21 at Lugogo Indoor Stadium, Kampala.
In the women’s category, Maggie Acio, Michele Nandawula, and Deborah Ibenu emerged as qualifiers, earning their spots in the national showdown.
“I am happy to have qualified for this year’s final, having previously taken part in 2012 and 2014. Now, the responsibility is to remain on form by training to stay mentally and physically sharp,” Epodoi said.
A member of Soroti City Pool Club, Epodoi noted that his past national experience will guide him as he aims to deliver his best performance. “I’ll approach each game with enjoyment. While there are more seasoned professionals out there, I’m determined to perform at my peak,” he added.
Kaddu, who featured in the 2024 Nile Special National Pool Open, expressed confidence ahead of this year’s contest. “It is yet another good time for me to qualify from Nature Gardens. I’m stepping up my preparations and ready for the national open,” he said.
Meanwhile, last year’s regional representatives Samuel Oiko and Tom Ebuut failed to progress this time, bowing out at the group stage.
