Dodgers Baseball Club from Nakirebe in Mpigi emerged champions of the 3rd edition of the Christmas Baseball Cup, held over the weekend at the National Baseball Ground in Gayaza.
The defending champions retained the trophy for the second consecutive time after completing the two-day tournament unbeaten.
For their outstanding performance, Dodgers received a cash prize of shs500,000, courtesy of the Uganda Baseball Community, the event organisers.

Nile Hammers Seniors from Arua District finished second and earned Shs300,000, while Panyadoli Self Help Secondary School from Kiryandongo placed third, walking away with Shs200,000. Other participating teams included Gayaza Baseball Club, Nile Hammers Juniors, and Ashinaga from Nansana.
Uganda Baseball Community chairman, Derick Kasozi, commended all teams for their participation and praised Dodgers for fielding a formidable side that successfully defended the title. “We came in as baseball lovers to organize four tournaments, the New Year Cup, Easter Cup, Independence Cup, and Christmas Cup, especially in the absence of a national baseball league,” Kasozi said.

He emphasized that the tournaments play a vital role in talent identification, building confidence among clubs, instilling discipline in players, developing technical officials such as referees and umpires, and training personnel in event organization and management.
Kasozi further noted that these competitions form part of a broader strategy to build a strong national team capable of competing in the qualification games for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
