Desire Mugumisa has been elected chairman of the Platinum Credit Heathens Rugby Club for a two-year term.
Mugumisa defeated Daniel Rwenyora, securing 66 votes against Rwenyora’s 44. His election marks a continuation of the work he began in the previous executive.
“I am happy that I was able to win and that the passionate work we have put in over the last two years does not have to end. I now have the opportunity to see it through,” Mugumisa said.
With a strong background in media, Mugumisa is keen on tapping into new markets to build on the club’s success while creating fresh avenues for growth. He emphasized that while the Heathens remain rooted in rugby traditions, the club must adapt to modern demands to enhance its overall value.
“The fact that Heathens is the most successful club in Uganda is not something we can simply sing about. What do those big titles mean for the game and for the club? The sports fraternity has changed over time, and we must ensure we are a modern club that young players and fans want to be part of,” he explained.
Mugumisa will be supported by Emma Muhangi as secretary, Martin Namutso as treasurer, Lucy Ssuubi in charge of media, commercial and advertising, and Edward Kiwanuka as fans’ representative.
