The Cranes Amputee football team is in Egypt for the 2024 Africa Amputee Football Cup of Nations.
The team was seen off by Moses Kintu, the Public Relations Officer in the National Chairman NRM office, who represented Hajat Hadija Namyalo at the Uganda Paralympic Committee (UPC) office in Mulago. Kintu handed over the national flag to the president of the Federation of Uganda Amputee Football Associations (FUAFA), Lawrence Kitimbo who is also one of the players.
“Ensure to be in the medal brackets to get more funding from the government. It is a pleasure that Uganda is allowing amputees to compete in football on the global stage,” the message read.
Uganda is one of the 16 countries scheduled to participate in the tournament that happens every four years.
Uganda is in Group C with Liberia, Morocco, and Senegal where the first two in each group shall progress to the quarterfinals.
The first five ranked teams shall qualify for the 2026 World Cup tentatively scheduled for Costa Rica.
Uganda took only 10 players instead of 22 and travelled without a coach due to financial constraints.
