Tanzania wrapped up their participation in the 2023 CECAFA U18 Boys Championship with a third-place finish after beating Rwanda 3-1 on Friday.

The penultimate game of this edition at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kenya's western city of Kisumu saw an opening half laden with three goals.

Tanzania were the first on the score board when Zizane Ally Sereri's angled strike beat goalkeeper Yvan Ruhamyanyiko to break the deadlock in the 19th minute.

Said Said then improved their lead with a second, before Didie Ndayishimiye halved Rwanda's deficit seven minutes before the break.

Four minutes into the second half, John Misheto restored Tanzania's two-goal lead to make life more difficult for Rwandan skipper Kennedy Hoziyana and co.

In the last minute of the five-minute stoppage time, Rwanda came so close to finding a consolation second goal, but the close-range strike was just wide of the mark.

Seconds after that missed opportunity, the final whistle went to get Tanzania started with celebrations for their bronze-medal production.

The crowds inside Jomo Kenyatta Stadium will be sticking around because coming up is the big one, as Uganda square off with hosts Kenya for the coveted title.

Kickoff for this final is 2:30pm local time.
