The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces and national chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Thursday, December 4, 2025, inspected Hoima City Stadium.
He was accompanied by the State Minister for Sports, officials from the National Council of Sports, and the Mayor of Hoima City.
In a statement, the UPDF said that during the inspection, Gen. Kainerugaba emphasised the importance of maintaining the stadium's high standards.

He urged state sports minister Peter Ogwang and the National Council of Sports to ensure that the facility's world-class quality is replicated in future projects.
The 20,000-seat multi-purpose Hoima City Stadium is a key venue for Uganda’s role as a co-host of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Kenya and Tanzania. It is one of three stadiums in Uganda designated to host tournament matches.
Gen. Kainerugaba reaffirmed his commitment to sports development, noting that the provision and proper maintenance of top-tier facilities are essential for nurturing Ugandan athletic talent and achieving international sporting success.
Hoima City Stadium represents a strategic government investment aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure, stimulating regional development within the Hoima economic hub, and ensuring Uganda meets its obligations as a host nation for AFCON 2027.
